Apple has filed a patent to bring iPhones and iPods off the grid and into the rays of the sun. Just my luck - a day after buying my iPhone the news breaks. Can’t an energy writer catch a break!?! Great news for the grid though. If we continue to plug-in the way we are, and the transportation sector is electrified, then we are in for some serious grid strain. If electronics manufacturers find a way to power products in a renewable manner, then we will decrease demand on the grid, become more efficient in energy use, and hopefully one day eliminate the need for excessive power cords.

check out the.grid.girl’s piece about how germany might slash subsidies for solar energy production. such subsidies have helped scale solar energy in the country, which has a solar irradiance the equivalent of alaska!
